Add a Beard To a Photo 12
Using this tutorial you can learn how to add a beard to a face using just a few simple steps!
1. Create a new file (file – new – 200*200px). This will be our brush to create the beard. Select your brush tool and use a round shape with a size of 4 pixels to create a few random lines like this. Make sure your foreground color is black #000000.
2. Now go to (edit – define brush preset) and give this brush a name! Now is the time to open the picture you want to edit… I used this one.
3. We’re going to adjust the settings of this brush so press F5 or go to (window – brushes) and please make sure your brush tool is selected and ready for use. Now you just have to copy the settings from the following screenshots to create the perfect brush for the beard (make sure smoothing is also selected)!
4. Now start brushing using your brush tool but change the brush size to 25 pixels max! You also might want to do this on a new layer (layer – new layer) to keep it simple and easy for yourself! This is what I had when I finished brushing! Hopefully you’ve got something similar to this… You might want to change the blending mode to pin light, it gives the beard an older look!

For better matching of the beard to the picture, you should create your “beard brush” to match one or more colors of the subject’s hair.
For instance, if the subject has brown hair with a little gray, select the shade of brown by clicking on the dropper icon, then create your brush in that color. Keep the colors on separate layers, and any gray you add in set to about 45% opacity to give a realistic effect.
I’ts awsome! And also very funny!
You could do what GamerGirl said, but you could also set the brush’s color jitter to 100% so it jumps between the colors as you brush. Don’t put scatter up too high or you’ll make yourself look like the wolfman.
Great tips packetpirate, thank you!
Awesome tutorial, I gave myself a beard!
Thank you so much for this website too, I have learned so much thanks to your great teaching skills and methods of presentation.
Thx Nathan, a comment like that is always appreciated

I’m sorry, I didn’t think this looked very realistic at all.
But that might not be the point either?
I might add that I’ve seen some other very nice ones on this site though
In case you thought I was just a rude git.
It’s a way too simple and short tutorial to make it look realistic… It’s a simple one that requires almost no work but does the trick for photoshop users that like to play around
!
